AirPlay

Keeping Score! supports AirPlay with a purpose-built TV experience — a dedicated leaderboard, not just a mirror of your phone. Pick a theme, scale to any screen, and watch the lead change in real time across the room.

  1. Connect your iPhone or iPad to an Apple TV or AirPlay-compatible display.
  2. The app detects the external screen automatically — no setup needed.
  3. The TV switches to the dedicated leaderboard and your phone keeps the normal scoring interface.
  4. Scores, ticker captions, and animations update on the TV in real time as you play.

Four broadcast-quality variants. Pick the default in Settings → TV Display, or switch mid-game from the AirPlay toolbar (long-press the AirPlay glyph in the navigation bar).

VariantLook
ClassicFlat traditional scoreboard — clean and unfussy
CompetitiveHigh-contrast podium emphasis with an animated chyron and LIVE indicator
Cozy LightSoft pastels for low-energy game nights
Cozy DarkThe same pastel palette on a dark background

The Cozy and Competitive variants are canvas-aware — baselines and row heights scale with the screen so the layout fills whatever display you’re on, from a 720p hotel TV to a 4K living-room set.

Tap Settings → TV Display for a pushed picker with live previews of each variant. The picker uses real game data so you see exactly what each theme looks like on your actual game. If no AirPlay display is connected when you open the picker, the screen also shows the AirPlay how-to.

  • Multi-column layout — scales by player count: a single column for small games, dual columns for medium, capped at the variant-specific maximum with a +N overflow indicator (KEE-710 / KEE-711).
  • Photo rail — when you’ve added memories with photos, the rail alternates slot stacks across the leaderboard so the screen has a sense of place, not just numbers.
  • Per-game badges — manually-awarded badges (MVP, comeback, sharpshooter, dealer, and the Kids-mode set) render alongside avatars on both the Cozy and Competitive leaderboards, and on the competitive podium during the celebration. The dealer indicator sits at the bottom-leading corner to match the recency badge styling on the phone.
  • Notes ticker (chyron) — memory captions and notes scroll across the bottom in a broadcast-style ticker. Transitions use a card-flip pivot on the displayed entry, with a wipe-up effect that mirrors a real broadcast lower-third.
  • Winner celebration — a 4-stage animation (dim, spotlight, banner reveal, confetti) at TV scale fires when the game ends. On the competitive theme the podium avatars and player names sit inside the plinth bars so the names always read on top of a coloured ground, never the venue background. Respects Reduce Motion.
  • Leader change coin flip — a ~3-second 3D coin animation when the lead changes hands.
  • Waiting screen — animated dice with a pulsing message when no game is selected, so the TV never looks idle.
  • Persistent display — the shared game stays on the TV even when you navigate elsewhere on the phone.
Winner celebration on the TV display

When AirPlay is active, the AirPlay glyph in the navigation bar gains a long-press menu so you can:

  • Switch theme — cycle Classic / Competitive / Cozy Light / Cozy Dark without leaving the gameplay screen.
  • Stop sharing — disconnect from the TV.

A tap on the same glyph shows the standard AirPlay route picker.

  • Any AirPlay-compatible receiver (Apple TV, AirPlay-enabled smart TV, Mac).
  • iPhone or iPad running iOS 18+.
  1. Open Control Center on your device.
  2. Tap Screen Mirroring.
  3. Select your AirPlay display.
  4. The app switches to the dedicated TV leaderboard automatically.

External display detection runs through a single path on launch and on scene changes — no UIScreen polling — and picks up displays that were already connected when you opened the app.

  • Switch to Competitive late in a game when the standings actually matter — the chyron and LIVE indicator look great on a finale.
  • The TV display uses fixed-size fonts, not Dynamic Type, since external displays have no accessibility settings.
  • Pin a hero memory photo before you cast — it shows up in the photo rail as the screen settles in.
  • Pair with Kids Mode for parties — kids love seeing their scores on the big screen.
  • Memories — Captions feed the chyron ticker; pinned photos show on the rail
  • Finishing Games — TV celebration when a game ends
  • Kids Mode — Great combined with AirPlay for kids’ parties
  • Widgets — Another way to see scores at a glance

No. Keeping Score! works with any AirPlay-compatible receiver, including AirPlay-enabled smart TVs and Macs.

No. The TV gets a dedicated, purpose-built leaderboard optimised for large displays — themed background, fixed large fonts, broadcast-style chyron. Your phone continues to show the normal scoring interface.

What if I have more than the variant supports?

Section titled “What if I have more than the variant supports?”

The TV display caps at the variant’s maximum and shows the overflow as +N. Everyone’s scores are still tracked; the TV just shows the leaders.

Can I change the TV theme without stopping AirPlay?

Section titled “Can I change the TV theme without stopping AirPlay?”

Yes. Long-press the AirPlay glyph in the navigation bar and pick a different theme — the TV cross-fades to the new variant.
