Family Game Night

Here’s how a typical family game night flows with Keeping Score! — from creating a game to sharing the final results.

It’s Friday night. The family is playing Catan. Four players, highest score wins, and you want to show the scores on the TV.

  1. Tap + to create a new game
  2. Title it “Catan” (or leave blank — the app generates a name)
  3. Add your family members — if you’ve saved them as personas, tap the persona picker to add them instantly
  4. Leave scoring mode as Highest Wins (the default)
  5. Tap the checkmark to start

If you have an Apple TV or AirPlay-compatible display:

  1. Connect your iPhone to the TV via AirPlay
  2. A dedicated leaderboard automatically appears on the big screen
  3. Everyone can see the scores without crowding around your phone

The TV display uses a dark theme with large fonts — it’s designed to be read from across the room. Learn more about AirPlay.

During the game, update scores whenever points are earned:

  • Quick way: Tap + next to a player’s name for simple point additions
  • Calculator: Tap the player’s row for complex math — enter 10 + 2 + 1 for a settlement, road, and longest road bonus in one go

When someone wins:

  1. Open the game menu and tap Finish Game
  2. Confetti celebrates the winner
  3. The final leaderboard shows everyone’s rank
  1. Tap Share from the game menu
  2. A beautiful share card is generated with the final scores and rankings
  3. Send it to the family group chat via Messages, WhatsApp, or any app

Save time for next week:

  • Create personas for each family member with emoji avatars — no retyping names
  • Set up a Game Night to track wins across multiple games in one evening
  • Pin your current game to the Home Screen with a widget for quick access
